Barbara or Amba (her spiritual name) discovered yoga in 2005. When she took her first yoga class, she felt like she found her way home. She thinks of herself as Dorothy from Wizard of Oz… “there is no place like home”. Like Dorothy, Barbara was traveling though time and space searching for something. Yoga made her realize that everything she sought was inside her all along. “Yoga is a lamp lit in the window of our homes. We just need to allow the light guide us.” Since that first experience, Barbara was hooked. She wanted to learn more and more about yoga.
She studied with Anna Forrest in San Diego and Sierra Bender at Kripalu. Barbara practiced with many amazing teachers. She graduated the 200 YTT program at Kula Kamala in Toms River, NJ where she learned the importance of the mind, body, and spirit workout, aka yoga, and its benefits to your well-being. Sharing the gift of yoga with as many people as possible is Barbara’s goal. “If more people practice yoga, the world would be a better place.”
Barbara leads a powerful breath-focused traditional flow inspired class that combines her deep love of the practice of yoga. In her classes, students learn to embrace their divine self within. Barbara offers modifications to her practice in order to address all the needs of the yogis in her class.
“Yoga is a beautiful lesson of enjoying the journey of your life, trusting in the flow and partaking of the blessings that are bestowed upon the way.”
When Barbara is not practicing yoga, she is a third grade elementary school teacher. In her classroom she shares the gift of yoga with her students as well as with her colleagues. Yoga encompasses all aspects of Barbara’s life.
